Help an Acton Senior Meet an Urgent Insurance Deadline
Acton Firewise is assisting a local senior who is undergoing cancer treatment and cannot physically or financially complete work requested by their insurance company. The resident faces a deadline to address the property conditions or may lose insurance coverage.
Work Needed at the Property
The project includes several related safety improvements:

Tree and vegetation work:Â Six trees require professional trimming. Crews will also remove hazardous branches, overgrown vegetation and accumulated combustible debris. Acton Firewise has received a $1,600 estimate for this portion of the project.

Roof inspection and documentation:Â Pepper-tree debris has collected in a roof valley and may be hiding the condition of the shingles. The roof must be safely cleared, inspected and photographed for the insurance company.

Water-storage and fire-protection system repairs: The property’s well supplies a 6,500 gallon water-storage tank. Of that capacity, 3,500 gallons must be maintained as a reserve for fire protection. Water is overflowing from the top of the tank, indicating that the overflow-control valve needs to be replaced. The tank’s loose alarm bell must also be properly reattached, inspected and tested. Photographs and a contractor’s estimate will be added when available.
Donations will help pay for professional tree trimming, vegetation clearing, debris removal and disposal, roof clearing and inspection, repairs to the water-storage and fire-protection system, and photographs documenting the completed work.
Acton Firewise will provide estimates, photographs and project updates so supporters can see how donations are used. If the amount raised exceeds the cost of this resident’s approved work and related expenses, the remaining funds will support another wildfire-mitigation or cleanup project for a resident in need.
