Help an acton Senior While She Battles Cancer

Help Our Neighbor Stay Safe—and Stay Insured

We are raising $1,600 to complete urgent tree trimming for a senior homeowner in our community who is currently battling cancer.

Tree Trimming Goal: $1,600

Right now, she is facing two fights at once.

Medical bills are piling up. Every dollar is already spoken for. She’s stretching what she has just to get through treatment and basic living expenses. Hiring a crew to complete wildfire mitigation simply isn’t something she can afford.

And physically, she can’t do the work herself.

At the same time, she’s been given a deadline.

To keep her insurance through the California Fair Plan, she must complete required wildfire mitigation within the next few months and submit proof.

That means:

  • Trimming six trees

  • Clearing hazardous vegetation

  • Creating defensible space around her home

If this work isn’t completed in time, she risks losing her coverage altogether.

She’s not ignoring the rules.
She’s not refusing to act.

She’s doing everything she can.

But right now, it’s more than she can carry alone.

This is where we step in.

This is one of those moments where a community proves what it stands for.

A modest goal. A real solution. Immediate impact.

When we reach $1,600:

  • The work gets done

  • The property is brought into compliance

  • Photos are submitted for insurance

  • And she keeps her coverage

No delays. No uncertainty. Just a clear path forward.

This isn’t about perfection. It’s about protection.

It’s about making sure someone who has spent a lifetime building a home doesn’t lose it when she’s at her most vulnerable.

If you’ve ever wondered if a small donation actually makes a difference, this is that moment.

Because here, it does.

Why This Matters

These homeowner are not alone.

More seniors, veterans, and long-time residents in Acton are facing the same reality:

  • Rising insurance costs

  • Rising electricity, gas, and basic living costs

  • Insurance requirements and enforcement that didn't exist before

  • Thousands of dollars in work they cannot afford

Wildfire does not stop at property lines.

Helping one home reduces risk for the homes around it.

This is how communities protect themselves.

What Your Donation Does

Every dollar goes directly into wildfire risk reduction.

  • $50 helps clear dry weeds and flammable debris

  • $100 helps fund defensible space cleanup

  • $250 helps reduce fire risk in the critical 5-foot zone

  • $500 helps clear vegetation within 30 feet of a home

  • $750 helps fund tree trimming and ladder fuel removal

  • $1,600 completes this homeowner’s urgent tree trimming

When you give, you are helping someone stay insured, making their home safer, and reducing wildfire risk for the entire neighborhood.

What We’ve Already Done

Acton Firewise Inc is already doing this work in our community.

Because of local support:

  • A disabled veteran received full defensible space clearing and hazard reduction

  • A senior homeowner had four 3-story Italian cypress trees removed and a major tree trimmed

  • A senior received full 0–30 foot defensible space clearing

  • A senior home was hardened by removing mulch and replacing it with rock

These projects ranged from $650 to $2,000, and every one reduced real wildfire risk.

This is real work happening in Acton.

All work is coordinated locally through Acton Firewise Inc and completed by trusted, experienced crews.

Beyond This Home

Once this $1,600 goal is met, additional funding will:

  • Help other vulnerable residents facing the same situation

  • Expand wildfire mitigation work across Acton

  • Build the local match needed to bring larger wildfire funding into our community

This starts with one home.
But it builds something much bigger.

Real Impact in Acton, California

  • 200 homes participating in Firewise Communities

  • 154 homes pending recognition

  • Ongoing wildfire education and preparedness efforts

American Red Cross Partnership

  • 10 homes visited

  • 38 smoke alarms installed

  • 25 residents educated
